Job Description: Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic workpieces.
The duties of a knife grinder are to sharpen, straighten, and smooth knives, blades, and other parts for cutting equipment, such as deli slicers or scissors. Some knife grinders work at production or manufacturing facilities and have many of the same responsibilities as buffers and polishers.
Some tasks may include:
● Provide high-quality products to our customers in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
● As a machine operator, you ensure machine set-up is done to specification, then you load,
operate and unload machine cutters that are used to sharpen or construct knives and conduct
numerous quality assurance duties, such as testing the durability or sharpness of your products.
● Reviews and verifies invoices and purchase requests to ensure accuracy.
● Activate machine start-up switches to grind, lap, hone, debar, shear, or cut workpieces, according to specifications.
● Working closely with peers to ensure Determines placement of merchandise, follows safety and lifting protocols during work, and conducts safety reviews.
● Maintains logs and records.
